How to activate your licence

After deploying SquaredUp you will need to browse to the virtual machine using https://DNSName, and follow the SquaredUp setup wizard to log in and enter your licence activation key. You will have been emailed an activation key (often called a licence key or activation key), which is then activated against a SquaredUp installation.

If you have been asked to reactivate your existing licence key, because it has been modified or extended, then you will need to reactivate your existing licence.

Use this article if you have been sent a new licence activation key.

Where do I find my activation key?

Free trial

When you apply for a free trial you receive an unrestricted 30 day evaluation to try out all features in your own environment: Request a free trial activation key. If you've previously had a trial, or your trial has expired please contact Support.

How to Activate SquaredUp

SquaredUp needs you to enter your SquaredUp activation key, either:

  1. After deploying SquaredUp, browse to the virtual machine using https://DNSName and log in as an admin user. See How to deploy SquaredUp for Azure
  2. By browsing to https://DNSName/Activate.

    Licence Key

  3. Paste your licence key into the Activation screen.

Take care to use the correct licence key, because many licences only allow one activation.

  4. Click the Activate button.
  5. Complete the SquaredUp setup wizard.

For more information on the setup wizard stages see SquaredUp setup wizard.

How to check which licence key is being used

Each SquaredUp instance should have only one SquaredUp licence key installed. This is usually either a trial licence, or after purchasing SquaredUp the Primary licence. You may have both a Primary and a trial licence installed, for example, if you are trialling new features while considering a licence upgrade.

You can check the licence key being used by SquaredUp from the right-hand menu ☰ > system > licensing.

From this licensing perspective you can remove a licence, but if you accidentally remove the active licence you may not be able to access SquaredUp again without contacting Support.

If you are having problems activating

License already activated or Maximum activations reached

Activation keys are normally valid for a limited number of activations.

If you need any help please contact Support with the activation key.

An error occurred: The key provided is invalid. Activation keys must consist of at least 5 groups of letters and digits

SquaredUp licence keys resemble the following format type-prefix-aaaaa-bbbbb-ccccc-ddddd-eeeee

The activation key you have entered is incompatible with this version of SquaredUp

The activation key being used is not valid for the version of SquaredUp. Please contact Support with details of the problem and the activation key.

This key has expired

Some activation keys (such as for technical preview releases and evaluation licences) are only valid for a limited time period. Contact Support to obtain an up-to-date activation key.

For other renewable licences you will normally be able to renew your licence before it expires. As part of this renewal process, SquaredUp will update your existing licence with the new subscription term, so you can simply reactivate your licence for the changes to take effect. If your licence expires before you are able to renew then you may be sent a new licence activation key, which you should paste into the activation screen to activate the new key, when prompted as you open SquaredUp.
