Pinning a perspective to the navigation bar means you can add a pinned perspective to a Team Folder or make the pinned perspective available using Open Access. A perspective on the navigation bar is called a 'pinned perspective'. This feature is available in v4.5 and above.
Pinning a perspective to the navigation bar
This walkthrough takes you through adding a link on the navigation bar to a perspective.
- Browse to a server and view the perspective that you wish to pin to the navigation bar, for example the IIS Web Server perspective.
-
Click on the Share this dashboard button at the top right of the page. This button is only visible when you are not in edit mode.
-
Click on the select location button.
-
Drag the item into the navigation bar structure as you require. If you have a lot of navigation items you may need to scroll down to see the new item.
To add the perspective to a Team Folder select the team folder from the drop down list at the top of the structure first.
You will notice that the title of the pinned perspective is the name of the object being viewed followed by the name of the perspective. You can edit this if you wish.
-
Click the pin perspective button at the bottom of the navigation structure.
- If you click on the edit this dashboard button you see that the pinned perspective cannot be edited.
To make changes you should edit the perspective itself. After publishing the updated perspective the pinned perspective will show the changes. -
The pinned perspective shows a go to drilldown button which takes users to the object where all the perspectives can be viewed as normal.
Making a perspective available using Open Access
Once a perspective has been pinned to the navigation bar it can be made available via Open Access as normal.
- Ensure you are on the pinned perspective (not the perspective) by browsing to the dashboard using the navigation menus.
- Click on the Share this dashboard button up the top right. This button is only visible when you are not in edit mode.
-
Toggle the button from off to on to enable Open Access for this dashboard.
-
You will see the message 'Preparing your Open Access dashboard, please wait':
then the Open Access URL ready for you to copy and make available: -
Check the Open Access view by clicking on the OpenAccess button.
