After installing SquaredUp you will be prompted to login and enter a licence activation key. You will have been emailed an activation key (often called a licence key), which is then activated against a SquaredUp installation.
If your web server cannot connect to the internet to activate then you can do an offline activation.
If your licence has been modified or extended you will need to reactivate your licence.
When you apply for a free trial you receive an unrestricted 30 day evaluation to try out all features in your own SCOM environment: Request a free trial activation key. If you've previously had a trial, or your trial has expired please contact SquaredUp Support.
When you buy SquaredUp you will be emailed your licence keys.
Primary licence - This should be used if you only have one SquaredUp production server, or on your first SquaredUp production server if you are configuring a multi-server / high availability environment.
Secondary licence - This should only be used for any subsequent servers in a multi-server / high availability / load balanced environment.
Dev/Test licences - These are for your test environment so that you can experiment with configuration changes and new versions without affecting production.
SquaredUp needs you to enter your SquaredUp activation key, either:
- After installing, the set up wizard prompts you to log in as a user who is a SCOM Admin, and ideally SQL sysadmin user, then runs you through first-time use: Login, Activation, Data Warehouse, Open Access and Dashboard Packs. See How to install SquaredUp v3 for the first time
By browsing to http://SquaredUpServer/SquaredUpv3/Activate (where SquaredUpServer is the name of the server where SquaredUp is installed).
- Take care to use the correct licence key, as many licences only allow one activation. For example, the Primary key for the first server, or the Secondary key for subsequent servers in a multi-server / high availability environment. The Primary key can be activated on one server, while the Secondary key can be activated on up to 3 servers, by default.
Each SquaredUp instance should have only one SquaredUp licence key installed. This is usually either a trial licence or the Primary licence, but occasionally, you may have both a Primary and a trial licence installed, for example, if you are trialling new features while considering a licence upgrade.
To check which licence is being used by an instance of SquaredUp, open SquaredUp on a particular server by using the localhost address on the server itself or using the server name in the URL, for example
- In SquaredUp click on the right-hand menu ☰ and then on system.
- Click on the licensing perspective.
- Valid licenses shows all the licence keys installed on this instance of SquaredUp.
The Primary licence should be used if you only have one SquaredUp production server, or on your first SquaredUp production server if you are configuring a multi-server environment.
The Secondary licence should only be used for any subsequent servers in a multi-server / high availability / load balanced environment.
The Dev/Test licences are for your test environment.
Activation keys are normally valid for a limited number of activations.
If you are adding further SquaredUp servers to a multi-server / high availability environment you should use the Secondary licence key for each subsequent server. The Primary licence should only be used for the first server in the deployment.
If you uninstall and reinstall on the same server and you originally carried out an offline activation then you can reuse the same .bin file by browsing to http://SquaredUpServer/SquaredUpv3/InstallLicence.
If you have used this key to activate other installations, you may have reached the activation limit.
If you need any help please contact SquaredUp Support with the activation key.
That's fine, you can perform a manual or offline activation on another computer that has got internet access and then copy the .bin activation file onto the server. See How to activate your licence offline (manually).
Some activation keys - such as for technical preview releases and evaluation licences - are only valid for a limited time period. Contact SquaredUp Support to obtain an up-to-date activation key. If the licence has been modified or extended by us you will need to reactivate your licence for the changes to take effect.
Recycle the SquaredUpv3 application pool.
You need to log in as a SCOM administrator to carry out activation.
Please contact us at SquaredUp Support with details of the problem.
