Dashboard Packs

Overview

Dashboards and perspectives are bundled into dashboard packs, to provide customized views of your data.

  • On disk, dashboard packs are a collection of JSON files, one for each dashboard and perspective, with an additional manifest file describing the pack.

  • Dashboard packs can be exported and imported as *.zip files.

  • Like SCOM Management Packs, you’re not expected to author all of the dashboard packs yourself. You can import additional dashboard packs from community.squaredup.com.

A handful of key dashboard packs are imported when Squared Up is installed to get you started (Windows, SCOM, SQL and IIS). To import further dashboard packs see how to import a dashboard pack.

Managing dashboard packs

Dashboard packs can be managed by browsing to the right-hand menu ☰ then system and then the dashboard packs perspective.

There are three types of dashboard pack:

  • System dashboard packs which can be modified but not deleted.

  • Community dashboard packs which have been imported from community.squaredup.com. These dashboard packs and individual dashboards within them can be deleted and later restored.

  • Custom dashboard packs which can be exported, for example to submit them to the Community. By default all published dashboards and perspectives are added to the Default user-created content pack (Everyone). If any custom dashboard packs or dashboards within them are deleted, they cannot be restored.

Clicking on a dashboard pack name lists the dashboards within the dashboard pack. From here individual dashboards can be opened or deleted.

Deleting a dashboard from a custom dashboard pack deletes the dashboard itself, which cannot be restored through Squared Up.

How to import a dashboard pack

We install a handful of key dashboard packs to get you started (Windows, SCOM, SQL and IIS), but let’s go ahead and import another dashboard pack from the community.

  1. In Squared Up click on the top right hand menu ☰ > import dashboard packs. Alternatively, you can download dashboard packs from the Squared Up Getting Started page or from community.squaredup.com

    Get more dashboard packs<>

  2. Select a dashboard pack from the list - or search for a dashboard pack - and click Install.

You must have the required SCOM Management Packs installed. For example, if you have the Veeam HyperV Management Pack, install the Veeam HyperV dashboard pack.

  3. The dashboard pack is imported and if the pack contains top-level dashboards, these will automatically appear in the navigation bar at the top of the page.

The dashboard pack will typically also contain perspectives. You’ll see these when you drilldown into a server.

Troubleshooting dashboard packs

The first thing to do if you are experiencing any issues with dashboard packs is to force a reload of all dashboard packs:

In Squared Up click on the top right hand menu ☰ > system > dashboard packs then click the reload button at the bottom of the dashboard packs perspective.

A dashboard or perspective is missing and listed as invalid

The dashboard or perspective may be missing from the navigation bar following an upgrade or dashboard migration, and listed as invalid on the dashboard packs perspective. This can occur when the dashboard is derived from a dashboard ID which doesn’t exist. Follow the steps below to resolve this issue:

  1. On the Squared Up server, open the Squared Up user packages folder (for example C:\inetpub\wwwroot\squaredupv3\user\packages).

  2. Find the folder with the same name as the dashboard pack.

  3. Open the JSON file you require from either the dashboards or perspectives folder.

  4. Scroll to the end of the file and change the derivedFrom ID to be all 0’s:

    "derivedFrom": "00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000"

  5. Save the file.

  6. Open Squared Up in your browser.

  7. From the right-hand menu ☰ click on system and then on the dashboard packs perspective.

  8. Click the reload button at the bottom of the page.

If you have any queries please open a ticket or email Squared Up Support.
