How to remove Squared Up

Before you remove Squared Up you should ensure you have a full working backup of v4 (and v3 if you have both) see How to backup and restore Squared Up v4 and How to backup and restore Squared Up v3

Uninstalling or removing Squared Up will remove all your dashboards. If you will be reinstalling Squared Up you may not be able to reuse your activation key without help from Squared Up Support.

Overview

When removing Squared Up you have two options:

  • Use the uninstaller to remove all instances of either Squared Up v3.x or all instances of v4.x.

or

  • Remove selected instances directly from IIS.

Removing selected instances in IIS

If you have several instances of Squared Up, you can individually remove the instances you no longer need, leaving those you want to keep.

Use this method if:

  • You wish to remove selected instances of Squared Up v3 or v4, leaving other instances.
  • Or if there is no uninstaller listed in Apps & features / Programs and Features, because the uninstaller has previously been partially run.

Instances of Squared Up can be removed by deleting the application and the related application pool from IIS:

  1. In IIS right-click on the Squared Up application you wish to remove.

  2. Click Remove.

    IIS Remove Application

  3. When asked if you are you sure that you want to remove the selected application, click Yes.

  4. Under Application Pools right-click on the related application pool you wish to remove.

  5. Click Remove.

    IIS Remove Application Pool

  6. When asked if you are you sure that you want to remove the selected application pool, click Yes.

  7. Refresh the view in IIS and you will find that the removed Squared Up application is now shown as a folder rather than a web application. You can delete the folder itself by right-clicking on the folder in IIS and clicking Explore to go to Windows Explorer, and then right-clicking on the folder and clicking delete.

    Explore from IIS

If you wish to reinstall an instance of the same version you can rerun the deploy tool from Start > Squared Up 3x > Deploy Squared Up, or for v4 Start > Squared Up 4x > Deploy Squared Up. Many licence keys only allow one activation, so you may need to contact Support for assistance.

Using the uninstaller to remove all v3.x or all v4.x instances

Run the Squared Up v3.x uninstaller if you wish to remove all instances of Squared Up v3.x. For example, the uninstaller in Add or remove programs may specifically say Squared Up v3.4, but this will remove all v3.x instances. The Squared Up v4 uninstaller will remove all v4.x instances. There is no option to only uninstall selected instances.

Use this method if:

  • You wish to remove v3 once you have migrated to v4.
  • You wish to remove Squared Up completely.

On the server where Squared Up is installed:

  1. Open Apps & features either from Start > Settings > System > Apps & features or from Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program.

  2. Click on the uninstaller for the version of Squared Up you wish to remove. There will be separate items for Squared Up v3 and Squared Up v4. For example, you might click on Squared Up 3.4 to remove all v3 instances.

If you have more than one Squared Up instance, this will uninstall all instances of this version. In this situation you may prefer to remove selected instances from IIS by deleting the application and the related application pool as described above.

  3. Click Uninstall, then Uninstall again.

  4. You will be asked if you are sure you want to completely remove Squared Up and all of its components. If you click yes the Squared Up program files will be removed at this point. If you click no then the installation will be left untouched. Click yes to proceed to remove all instances of Squared Up of this version.

  5. If prompted, click Continue.

  6. All the Squared Up instances listed will be removed. Check carefully which instances are listed, as it is not possible to select only one to be removed. By default Remove IIS applications and Remove IIS application pools are both ticked. You may also wish to tick Remove all files from disk (inc. logs, licenses and dashboards).

  7. Click uninstall or OK to complete the uninstall wizard.

If you are using Squared Up with high availability (HA) you will need to repeat the uninstall on your Secondary server(s) and may also wish to remove the Squared Up share

Reinstalling Squared Up

  1. If you only deleted the application and application pool in IIS, you can redeploy an instance of the same version by simply rerunning the deploy tool from Start > Squared Up 4x > Deploy Squared Up, or for v3 Start > Squared Up 3x > Deploy Squared Up.

  2. If you ran the uninstaller, then the program files will have been removed and you will need to run the installer again.

  3. Install Squared Up by running the installer as normal.

  4. Many licence keys only allow one activation, so you may need to contact Support for assistance.
