How to upgrade Dashboard Server SCOM Edition
This article concerns upgrading from one minor release of Dashboard Server SCOM Edition to another, for example v5.0.1 to the latest release.
For upgrades to the next major version, such as v4 to v5, there are further considerations described in the specific major upgrade article:
If you are using multiple SquaredUp servers using high availability (HA) with a load balancer see Enabling High Availability
Upgrading Dashboard Server SCOM Edition
The steps below describe how to carry out a minor upgrade by simply downloading and running the latest installer on the server where Dashboard Server is installed.
Before upgrading we recommend you backup Dashboard Server SCOM Edition (see How to backup and restore Dashboard Server SCOM Edition).
Download the latest version of Dashboard Server.
Run the installer that you have downloaded.
Leave the default install type as In-Place. Check the correct Dashboard Server instance is going to be upgraded. You can click edit to see more details.
The installer automatically chooses the appropriate install type:
In-Place - If the installer detects a version of Dashboard Server SCOM Edition is already installed then it will default to an In-Place upgrade, meaning that it will upgrade the current instance.
For example, if you already have v5.0.1 installed and you want to upgrade to v5.1, you should leave the install type as the default of In-place.
If you do not wish to upgrade the existing installation you can click edit and choose New installation. See How to install Dashboard Server SCOM Edition
Side-By-Side - If v5 is not already installed, but v4 is, then the installer will default to a Side-By-Side upgrade, and will migrate the v4 content into a new v5 instance (leaving the v4 instance to run as normal). For important information about migrating from v4 to v5 see
Complete the installer, and open Dashboard Server.
Login to Dashboard Server.
Any Open Access dashboards you have will be refreshed, after any upgrade.
When you upgrade to Dashboard Server v4.6 and above any upgraded dashboard packs will be imported.
If you haven't made any changes to the dashboards
or perspectives being upgraded then they will be overwritten automatically. If changes have been made to the dashboards
or perspectives in the upgraded packs then you will be shown a Conflicts Detected page when logging in to Dashboard Server. For more information see Dashboard Packs.
